When you go to work even if it's in your house you need to treat it as though you were physically in an office somewhere else. Remember your work time is precious and no person or anything is to get in the way. Believe me when I say there will always be something that comes up and you have to be absolutely selfish with the time you have. So you plan to work hard, but what are you going to do?

2-It's very important you know exactly what you are going to do that day. Write down what you need to accomplish on a piece of paper. Then the key is to prioritize what is the most important, second, third etc. I guarantee that most days you are not going to accomplish everything on your list and that's okay. If you are doing what's most important everyday, then you will always be on track. Remember, if you don't know what to do, most likely you need to further break down your tasks into even smaller steps.

After you have your list of jobs to do for the day you will know exactly what you are going to do. Find a timer to use online or buy one offline, it doesn't really matter. Set it for a certain amount of time and get to work. For example, If I plan on working for 5 hours I will break it up into 5, 1 hour increments. I go like gangbusters for one hour non-stop and then take a short break. Then repeat the process until I'm done. After the day I actually worked for 5 hours, because breaks and distractions don't count towards my time . You will get tons done doing it this way.

If the phone rings let the answering machine take the message. Also forget looking at your emails. You are set on getting what are the most important objectives done for the day.

Finally, get yourself a notepad or use one on your computer and write down what happened for the day. I guess you can call this a business journal if you want, but it doesn't matter. What does matter is that you record what you did and how you felt etc.

Also write down what you know how to do and what your clueless about. It's your own personal sounding board to keep you on track. It doesn't have to take a long time. Just some time to record the day and then plan your next day. This will keep you more focused than any other way I can think of.
