Nothing Is Ever Free

Nothing Is Ever Free

There is no such thing as a free lunch. Even breathing is not really free. Heck, even dying is too expensive for most people. Gas, grass or ... okay, you get the picture. From the time we are little children we are told that without any doubt and without any exceptions, there is nothing in this world that is free. Well, fortunately, this is not your Grandparent's internet and the days of nothing being free should be left in the history books along with many other old standard "rules" of doing business in the brick and mortar world.

While people were always willing to give small samples in most businesses, it was rarely more than enough to whet your appetite and get you to buy "the whole enchilada" and if it was, there was always some other catch as well. That theory should not be summarily dismissed simply because you are working online. Sometimes, it can be very beneficial and ultimately very profitable to give out small samples of your products online as well.

If you have a program that you have created, you may do well to release a free limited version in order to encourage people to purchase the fully functional version. Likewise, if you have informational products, releasing a chapter or two from the completed project can serve you well in generating discussion, creating some buzz and maybe even getting some helpful feedback about your product before you actually launch it. This is a tried and true method and it certainly is not without merit.

Still, this is the age of the Internet and if you want to become successful with your Internet Marketing ventures, it will be necessary to change with the times as well. In this case, it means always giving something of value to your readers and perhaps more importantly, to your subscribers. Giveaway events are one of the quickest and easiest ways to build up a membership list.

Some people presume that these giveaway events are loaded with freebie seekers and that may be the case. However, just as with any gamble of mass-mining process (mining names and email addresses in this instance) you have to dig through the quartz to get to the diamonds some times but the diamonds are there too. If you consistently provide people with not just a snippet, but an entire e-book or program, you will become very popular in a short amount of time.

The worst-case scenario is that your list will be large and may include a largely unresponsive cross section. However, you will also have a large enough list to balance that section out and it gives you an opportunity to even show the freebie seekers that their time with you is valuable as well. If you continue the tradition by giving them a newsletter of real value as well, they will be more inclined to open your emails.

On the occasions when you do make sales pitches to them, they will also be more inclined to spend their money with you. If your marketing plan does not include something for nothing, it should. If it does not, you may pay quite a hefty price for not allowing your customers to get something free.
